Fishing Information
Fishing Season
Fishing around Mount Pleasant and the surrounding waters of Central Andros is excellent year-round, though certain seasons stand out depending on the species you’re targeting. Overall, the best fishing season runs from October through May, when weather conditions are most favorable. During these months, anglers enjoy cooler temperatures, less humidity, and consistently active fish, making this period the prime time for fishing in the area.
Bonefish, the top target on Andros, are most abundant and active from October through April, with May still offering good opportunities before the peak summer heat slows their movement. Tarpon fishing is strongest between March and July, when these powerful fish are commonly found rolling and feeding in creeks and tidal channels. Permit, known for being challenging but rewarding, are best targeted from April through July, as warmer water temperatures increase their presence on the flats.
For those interested in bottom fishing, snappers and groupers are available year-round, but they are especially active during the cooler months from November through March, when conditions are ideal for consistent catches. This variety of seasonal opportunities makes Mount Pleasant a destination that offers something special for anglers no matter the time of year.

Recommended Rods & Reels
Anglers are advised to fish with 8- or 9-weight fly rods paired with high-quality saltwater reels equipped with a smooth, reliable drag system. Reels should be spooled with a minimum of 150 yards of backing and a weight-forward floating line designed for tropical conditions. This equipment setup provides the necessary strength, durability, and line control to effectively target flats species in varying wind and weather conditions.
Recommended Clothing & Waders
Long-sleeved UPF shirts (lightweight, breathable, muted colors)
Lightweight, quick-drying long pants
Wide-brimmed hat
Neck gaiter or Buff
Wading boots or shoes; water shoes/sandals for the boat
Light, packable rain jacket
Polarized sunglasses and reef-safe sunscreen
Recommended Fishing Techniques
Successful flats fishing relies on accurate casting, proper presentation, and situational awareness. Anglers should focus on making quiet, well-placed casts within 40–50 feet of the target, as stealth and precision are often more important than distance. When conditions are windy, the ability to deliver longer, accurate casts can increase overall success.
Depth control is key, adjust fly weight to match water depth and fish behavior, and be prepared to switch between weighted and unweighted flies as conditions change. A slow, natural retrieve that imitates shrimp or crab movement is generally most effective. Always remain attentive to guide instruction, as proper positioning, timing, and line management significantly improve hookup rates.
